Denmark's consumption of antibiotics for pigs has increased slightly in recent years, especially after the phasing out of medical zinc for weaning pigs. Therefore, the parties behind the Food and Veterinary Agreement from 2024 agreed that antibiotic consumption must be reduced by a total of 8% by 2027.

With a new executive order, which will come into force at the turn of the year, the threshold value in the so-called "Yellow Card" scheme will therefore be lowered by 20%, so that the target can be met. The executive order has just been put out for consultation.

The yellow card scheme was introduced in 2010 to reduce antibiotic consumption in pigs. Herds with high consumption are given a warning – a "yellow card" – and must reduce consumption within a set period of time.
